An Arctic Summer – The Svalbard Archipelago

John Wyatt opens our new season with a visit to the far north where he enjoys an eclipse of the sun.

Shared car trip to River Ver and Tyttenhanger.

OCTOBER

Monday 3rd

Birds of The Wash

A new speaker to the group, Tony Cook, prepares us for our trip later this month.

The Grand Draw will take place this evening.

Sunday 16th

Boxmoor Trust Conker Festival.

The group will be having a recruitment stand at this event. Noon to 3.00pm. Just off St. John’s Road, Boxmoor near the Boxmoor Playhouse.

Sunday 24th

Birdwatching cruise on The Wash
on Saturday with optional overnight stay in Boston and a visit to RSPB Frampton Marsh  on Sunday.

NOVEMBER

Monday 7th

CHANGE TO THE PRINTED PROGRAMME

Egypt – Birds and Antiquities

Our own popular speaker Phil Farrer looks at the wildlife and history of this fascinating country.

There will be a Harvest Stall this evening.

Saturday 12th

Quiz Night at The Paper Trail,
Fourdrinier Way, Apsley. 7:30 for 7:45. Bring some friends and book a table (max 6). Good fun guaranteed and a fish and chip supper.

Saturday 26th

Shared car trip to Dungeness.

This will be a shared car trip and we shall meet in Two Waters Road opposite Halfords Car Park at 07.00 Hours.

We shall be stopping for breakfast at the Tesco store at Ashford in Kent before proceeding to the reserve.

We intend to visit the Dungeness RSPB Reserve and The Patch - the outfall from the nearby Power Station.

The Urban Birder

Writer and Broadcaster David Lindo, who has appeared on BBC1’s The One Show, Springwatch, Countrywise and BBC Breakfast and who writes for BBC Wildlife , RSPB Birds and Birdwatching magazines tells of his experiences of urban birding and will be giving a taste of his forthcoming book.

JANUARY 2012

Monday 9th

The English Fruit Orchard

A new speaker to our group, David Curry, who is Chairman of the Herts Orchard Initiative, raises awareness of traditional fruit orchards and English fruit varieties.

Saturday 14th

Shared car trip to Harty Ferry and Shellness, Isle of Sheppey. Details at our January meeting.

This will be a shared car trip and we shall meet in Two Waters Road opposite Halfords Car Park at 07.00 Hours.

We shall be stopping for breakfast at the Tesco store 2 miles from Gillingham Kent just off the A2/A278 junction before going onto Isle of Sheppey.

We normally take a packed lunch and a thermos as there is no food at either of the two sites that we intend to visit on the Isle of Sheppey. However there is a pub nearby that we have used in the past.
