En route to Otmoor, we saw a Red Kite, Buzzard & Kestrel.
Ten members arrived at the reserve to be met by the temporary warden. He gave us a brief rundown of the birds that were present.
We had a slow walk to the first hide (reed screen) spotting Sedge & Reed Warblers on the way.
From the first hide we saw a Glossy Ibis, which had apparently been on the reserve for a few weeks. There were also a pair of Little Egrets, Redshank & Black Tailed Godwits. Walking between the hides a Cetti’s warbler called from heavy undergrowth but we were not able to see it.
From the next hide, we had excellent views of a Hobby flying very close. One of these landed on the bank, staying for at least five minutes, allowing us to enjoy good views of the markings of this magnificent bird.
Walking back to the car park we heard and saw a Grasshopper Warbler; also a Buzzard flew past in the distance.
An enjoyable few hours were spent on this reserve which we, as a group, have helped to support financially.
