RSPB Nags Head Nature Reserve 22nd May 2004

It was a fine sunny morning as we set out by coach for the RSPB Nags Head reserve in the Forest of Dean. We intended to go to Symonds Yat too to see the nesting Peregrine Falcons but owing to a miscommunication with the coach driver we finished up on the A40 below Nags Head instead of at the top.

At Nags Head we were greeted by the volunteer staff at the new Visitors Centre to be told what to expect to find where on the reserve. As it turned out we were a few species short of what we expected to see but had a good day nevertheless in that very relaxing piece of woodland.

Of the warblers we had good views of Blackcap and Garden Warbler and heard several Chiffchaff. We also saw a Spotted Flycatcher, Treecreeper,  Nuthatch, a family of Mandarin Ducks and  were rewarded with very close views of a pair Marsh Tits taking food into a nest in a tree trunk.
